Alejandro Garnacho produces fiery performance in Brentford win – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United overcame a difficult start to beat Brentford 2-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

In their first match after the international break, Man United were in desperate need of a triumph following five winless games on the trot. Of course, manager Erik ten Hag needed to start convincing disgruntled United fans that he has the ability to lead the team into the future.

On the stroke of half-time, disaster struck when United went down to 10 men due to a head injury to Matthijs de Ligt. What followed was a goal from a corner by the visitors, frustrating United fans who have gotten used to losing in recent times.

After the break, United appeared to be a new team, filled with a newfound confidence, energy, and aggression on the attack.

While he took several shots in the first half to no avail, Alejandro Garnacho was about to reap the reward of his efforts.

Just two minutes after the restart, Garnacho pounced on a cross from Marcus Rashford, thumping a thunderous volley into the net to draw United level.

He continued applying attacking pressure, taking several shots that forced saves from the keeper. Ultimately, team mate Rasmus Hojlund would come to the party as well, lobbing the ball over the keeper in the 62nd minute to hand United a deserved victory.

All in all, Garnacho’s shooting appears to be much improved from past performances. His took five shots on target, the most of any player from either team, while one shot was inaccurate. Two more shots by the Argentine were blocked by the Brentford defence.

Garnacho also produced two key passes, proving to be a capable teammate when he gets into the final third. Impressively, three of his four long balls reached their target, while 22 of his 28 short passes reached their target for a 79% accuracy.

The only aspect of the winger’s game that came up short of expectations was his dribbling and physicality on the ball. Two of Garnacho’s four dribbling attempts were completed.; however, he won just five of his 12 ground duels. He failed to win either of his two aerial battles.

Admirable, Garnacho put in a fine defensive display to help his teammates in times of need. While he was dribbled past on five occasions, it’s important to note that defence is not his forte. Still, Garnacho put in two interceptions and two tackles to safeguard United’s lead.

Ultimately, this performance showed just how lethal Garnacho can be on the attack on his day. The Argentine is proving to be an exciting player whose progress at Old Trafford is sure to be fascinating to watch.
