Rio Ferdinand asks online Manchester United fans thoughts on Ruben Amorim – Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has asked United fans on X to give their views on the probable new manager of the club, Ruben Amorim.

In a tidal wave of news yesterday, Erik ten Hag was sacked as manager of United and his assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy was placed in interim charge for at least the Carabao Cup tie against Leicester City tomorrow night.

This led to much speculation on who would be the new manager at the club with names such as Xavi Hernandez, Thomas Frank and Kieran McKenna discussed but the true identity of Ineos’ target finally emerged.

Sporting Lisbon’s youthful manager Ruben Amorim was reported to be in talks with United over becoming the new manager and is thought to have already given the green light to the deal.

Rio Ferdinand had earlier in the day spoken out on his YouTube channel about the sacking and claimed that he could see Van Nistelrooy being given the job permanently or Ineos moving to appoint Xavi or Frank.

He later took to X to ask United and football fans what they thought about the prospect of the 39 year old Portuguese potentially becoming the latest coach charged with bringing back the good old days to Old Trafford.

He simply posted “Rúben Amorim… thoughts?” and there were an avalanche of responses.

Many fans drew comparison between him and Ten Hag claiming they had both had major successes in minor leagues.

One supporter also highlighted that Amorim was actually beaten 1-5 by Ten Hag’s Ajax in the past in what will not be welcome news for most United fans.

Others were much more positive and interestingly there were a sizeable number of respondents from Portugal, Amorim’s native land.

One Portuguese fan replied “Damn Rio, he is too good to go! Just don’t take him please guys. We give you Gyokeres.”

The Sporting boss won the league last season and he has started this season perfectly, winning nine from nine with 30 goals scored and two conceded.

Another commenter backed up his credentials by claiming that he or Nagelsmann were “the only options” for the job.

With the rapid speed of the deal, United fans across the world will surely not need to wait long to see if Amorim will indeed be the new manager at Old Trafford and will expect official word before the end of the week from the club.
