Casemiro back to his best in emphatic 5-2 win over Leicester City – Man United News And Transfer News

In what was their first match under Ruud van Nistelrooy following Erik ten Hag’s departure, Manchester United cruised to a 5-2 victory over Leicester City on Wednesday night.

It was a fast-paced match filled with action in front of both teams’ goals, with Man United taking a massive 23 shots on goal.

United were rewarded for their raw attacking intent early on, with Casemiro scoring a wonder goal in the 15th minute. The Brazilian picked up the ball outside the box, thumping in a thunderous shot that hurtled past the keeper into the top corner of the net at the far post.

Six minutes before half-time, Casemiro got on the scoresheet yet again. Perfectly positioned in the box for an incoming corner, Casemiro connected well with a cross from Marcus Rashford, however, his lethal headed thumped into the upright. Fortunately, Casemiro exhibited the awareness required to pounce on the rebound, slamming it into the back of the net for his second goal of the match.

By scoring two goals from his two shots on target, the Brazilian playmaker showed just how clinical he can be when on form. He took three other shots that veered off target.

With 68 touches, Casemiro showed plenty of class with the ball at his feet. He completed 36 of his 47 passes for a 77% passing accuracy while also making one key pass.

Casemiro’s long passing was particularly impressive, with eight of his 12 long balls reaching their intended target.

Although he only managed to win three of his eight ground duels, Casemiro was effective in the air, winning two of three aerial duels.

The Brazilian was the perfect holding midfielder on the night, providing his defence with heaps of support throughout the encounter.

He completed nine defensive actions, the most of any United player including the entire defence. This included four clearances, two tackles, and three blocked shots.

Ultimately, Casemiro appeared unstoppable, producing an impressive, well-rounded performance. He shone on the attack, in defence, and at the heart of United’s midfield build-up.

Given his impressive performance that seemingly came out of nowhere, one cannot help but wonder whether Ten Hag’s departure has provided him with the freedom to truly embrace his preferred playing style, as seemed to be the case with his teammates as well.

It will be interesting to see whether Casemiro reverts back to his peak form now that United are entering a new era.
