Manchester United’s new head coach Ruben Amorim reported for duty for the first time this week as he starts his role as Erik ten Hag’s successor at Old Trafford.
The appointment of the former Sporting Lisbon coach has been met with widespread excitement from United fans, with Amorim touted as one of the brightest young coaches in the game.
These are also the views echoed by United’s chief executive Omar Berrada who was part of the team tasked with convincing the 39-year-old to leave Lisbon for Manchester.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Berrada has opened up to Portuguese media regarding the appointment and admits he is excited to see what he can bring to the role that has been a graveyard for managers over the last decade.
“I am very excited about the arrival of Ruben Amorim. It is good to be back in Lisbon, I was here two weeks ago.
“We really believe that he will integrate into the rest of the structure so that we can be successful on the pitch. (It is) a perfect partnership between sport and technology,” said Berrada.
Berrada was one of the first to welcome Amorim to his new home on Monday afternoon, alongside Jason Wilcox who met the new head coach at United’s Carrington training complex.
Amorim was officially named as United’s new man on the November 1st after the club relieved Ten Hag of his duties just a few days prior.
Ruud van Nistelrooy had taken charge of the United side in the interim basis and guided United to a solid run of four games unbeaten which boasted of three wins in multiple competitions.
However, the task facing the Portuguese coach is still a daunting one with United languishing in 13th place in the Premier League table and having work to do to qualify in the top eight of the new Europa League format.
Amorim now has a two week bedding-in period before his first on-pitch assignment that comes in the shape of a trip to newly-promoted Ipswich Town on November 24.
The former Sporting man will be desperate to get off to a flyer in his first game and continue the work Van Nistelrooy has done in closing the gap to the European places in the Premier League.
Despite their lowly league position, United are only four points off the top four in the division and Amorim will fancy his chances of making up the deficit.
