WATCH: Rishabh Pant sledges Jasprit Bumrah after taking his wicket; the Indian pacer responds

As the countdown begins for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Team India is gearing up for a fierce battle against Australia, with the first Test set to commence at the Perth Stadium on November 22. The stakes are undeniably high, as both teams vie for supremacy in a series that has historically been a test of skill and resilience.

Rishabh Pant gets Jasprit Bumrah’s wicket in the nets

In preparation for the challenging Australian conditions, Indian players have been rigorously training, participating in a match simulation to refine their techniques. This practice is crucial as they adapt to the fast-paced pitches at the WACA, known for their bounce and pace. Head coach Gautam Gambhir has emphasized the importance of acclimatization, ensuring that players are not only physically prepared but also mentally ready for the rigours of Test cricket Down Under.

Despite the intense training regimen, the team has managed to maintain a light atmosphere. Rishabh Pant‘s playful attempt at bowling during practice added a touch of humour, as he engaged in banter with pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. In a video shared by the BCCI, Pant humorously threatened Bumrah with bouncers, showcasing that even amidst serious preparations, camaraderie remains a vital part of their approach.

The fun escalated when Pant insisted that he had indeed dismissed Bumrah with a bouncer that the speedster failed to connect with properly.

“Jasprit Bumrah ko pel diya hai maine, net pe out kiya ek wicket maine,” said Pant.

Bumrah, however, was quick to counter that it was an illegal delivery due to Pant’s unconventional bowling action. “His bowling action is illegal,” Bumrah joked, further adding that he had made contact and it should either be a four or two runs. This light-hearted dispute drew in Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel as an impromptu judge, leaving him chuckling at the absurdity of the situation.

Injury concerns loom large for India

However, the preparations have not been without challenges. The uncertainty surrounding player fitness has raised alarms within the camp. Rohit Sharma‘s potential absence from the first Test due to personal reasons has left a significant gap in leadership and experience. Meanwhile, KL Rahul faced an injury scare after being struck on the elbow during practice, leading to his early retirement from the session. His status as an opener hangs in the balance, prompting discussions about possible replacements should he be ruled out.

The injury woes extend beyond Rahul; Sarfaraz Khan also faced a minor setback during practice. Fortunately, early reports suggest that his condition is not serious. Nevertheless, these injuries could force last-minute adjustments to India’s lineup, adding pressure as they prepare for one of cricket’s most challenging tours.
