Manchester United intend to find an agreement for Geovany Quenda’s transfer now and leave him at Sporting CP until the summer, as per reports.
Erik ten Hag’s appointment as United manager paved the way for several players with Ajax connections to move to Old Trafford.
As expected, Ruben Amorim’s arrival at the club has also intensified suggestions of United raiding Sporting, with in-form striker Viktor Gyökeres grabbing the most headlines.
The ex-Sporting manager has, however, insisted he doesn’t plan to reunite with his former players in January, but refused to make any promises for the following transfer windows.
Now, a report from Portugal is suggesting the Red Devils are planning to put their plan into action by securing Quenda’s services.
According to A BOLA, United want to resolve the Sporting talent’s situation “as soon as possible” before welcoming him to Old Trafford in the summer.
The 17-year-old star made his breakthrough under Amorim this season. He has impressed at both right wing-back and right-wing and has four goal contributions to his name in 18 appearances across all competitions.
In particular, his composed display in Sporting’s 4-1 win over Manchester City in the Champions League early in November earned him plenty of plaudits.
Quenda has a contract lasting until June 2027 that also includes a release clause reported to be worth €100 million.
The Lions expect their 57 number to be the club’s next big sale. However, the Portuguese outlet claims that United plan to test Sporting’s resolve by making an initial offer of around €40m.
Amorim certainly admires Quenda and he has the potential to become a regular fixture on the right flank under his coaching at United too.
Still, it is worth noting that the Mancunian giants have been monitoring the exciting prospect even before they hired the 39-year-old as their head coach.
