Manchester United handed boost in their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United’s adaptation to life under Ruben Amorim has not been a smooth one thus far, with many of the current squad struggling to adapt to his methods.

The struggles have led to a string of poor results and left the new head coach under no illusions that he must add to his numbers with players who better suit his style of play.

One name that has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford is Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Amorim is a huge fan of the front man, whose electrifying form in Portugal has made him one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe.

The Swede’s rapid rise under the mentorship of Amorim at Sporting meant the pair developed a strong relationship during their time together and the new United head coach would no doubt love to bring him to Manchester.

However, with PSR constraints leaving United without a bottomless pit of funds, Amorim needs to be careful with how, and where, he splashes any cash he’s afforded in the next few windows.

Given the £83 million release clause slapped on the head of Gyokeres, it looked as though Amorim may have to cast his net further afield to solve his striking issues at the club.

However, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, United bosses have since been informed that the goal machine may be available on a cut-price deal due to a gentleman’s agreement in place between club and player.

Such agreement would allow the striker to leave Sporting for as little as between £58.6m and £62.8m which will represent a much more attractive figure to the cost-cutting new owners.

United will have to wait until the end of the season to make their move with a caveat of the agreement being Gyokeres sees out the current campaign with the Portuguese Champions.

Amorim would ideally like to add the striker this month but if this information is made concrete, the move will certainly be delayed to the summer.

Should the deal come to fruition, United will hope they are getting the answer to an issue up front that has plagued the team for many a season.

Despite the big fee and potential, Rasmus Hojlund doesn’t quite look ready to lead the line under Amorim and with Marcus Rashford’s future looking set to lie away from Old Trafford, United are starved of goal-scoring options.

Gyokeres has as bagged an incredible 74 goals in just 79 appearances in Portugal, averaging better than a goal per game this season and given his relationship with Amorim, INEOS would be negligent to not be exploring all the avenues possible to bring the big striker to Manchester this summer.
