IPL 2024: LSG head coach Justin Langer reveals how M Siddharth keeps his promise of dismissing RCB star Virat Kohli

In a gripping encounter at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) clinched a remarkable victory against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), powered by a stellar performance by Quinton de Kock and Mayank Yadav. Apart from the duo, left-arm spinner M Siddharth was also impressive. After the game, LSG head Coach Justin Langer unveiled the intriguing tale behind Siddharth’s strategic dismissal of cricketing maestro Virat Kohli.

M Siddharth’s memorable outing

In what turned out to be a captivating match, LSG displayed sheer dominance, securing a convincing win by 28 runs against the formidable RCB. De Kock and Mayank emerged as the heroes for the Super Giants, guiding them to an emphatic victory.

However, it was the left-arm spin sensation Siddharth who stole the spotlight with his exceptional performance. In just his second match in the IPL, Siddharth managed to claim the prized scalp of Kohli, RCB’s star batsman, with a meticulously planned strategy.

Following a couple of rapid deliveries, Siddharth opted for a slower pace. The change in speed caught Kohli off guard, causing him to mistime his flick shot and produce a leading edge towards the point fielder.

The Promise fulfilled

Following the match, a video surfaced on social media platform X, where LSG’s head coach Langer narrated an intriguing anecdote about Siddharth’s commitment to dismissing Kohli. Langer disclosed that he had noticed Siddharth’s prowess with the arm ball during practice sessions and challenged him to get the wicket of the RCB superstar.

Impressively, Siddharth responded affirmatively to Langer’s challenge, assuring him of his capability. True to his word, Siddharth executed his plan flawlessly during the match, trapping Kohli with a deceptive delivery that resulted in an early dismissal.

“Had never spoken to him before… I saw bowl an arm ball. The first thing to come out of my mouth after meeting M Siddharth was ‘Hey Sid! you reckon you can get Virat out for us?’ He goes, ‘Yes sir!’. And what did he do? He gets him out,” Langer said in the LSG change room.

Siddharth’s journey in IPL

Notably, Siddharth’s journey to IPL success has been marked by resilience and determination. Hailing from Jakarta, Indonesia, Siddharth relocated to Chennai at a young age to pursue his cricketing aspirations. Following an impressive performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Tamil Nadu in 2019, he was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for IPL 2020.

However, despite his potential, he didn’t get the opportunity to showcase his talent and was subsequently released by the team. He then joined the Delhi Capitals (DC) but suffered an injury during the latter part of the tournament in the UAE, leading to his release from the squad once again.

Subsequently, Siddharth spent two seasons as a net bowler with the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) before LSG acquired his services for INR 2.4 crore in the auction for the 17th season of the lucrative league.
