Former RCB batter AB de Villiers reportedly offered Virat Kohli some batting advice ahead of their upcoming clash with the Rajasthan Royals. Kohli currently carries the weight of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) batting unit, as both Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell haven’t found their rhythm yet. This comes after RCB’s concerning batting display in their last match, where they were dismissed for a meagre 153 while chasing 182 against the Lucknow Super Giants.
AB de Villiers gives key guidance to Virat Kohli on his batting approach
ABD reportedly weighed in on Kohli’s batting approach. With only Kohli consistently scoring for RCB, De Villiers suggests Kohli consider playing a more anchoring role, staying at the crease for at least 15 overs. This strategy would allow batters like du Plessis and Maxwell to play their aggressive styles more freely in the early overs and later stages of the innings.

“Hopefully, he keeps going with his good start because RCB need that glue in the middle overs. We need him to get through the first six (overs), that’s ultimately how I want to see him play. Let Faf take more risk upfront, but Virat, I want you to be there over 6-15. That’s when RCB is going to fire from all cylinders. Watch out for that,” said De villiers on his YouTube channel.
RCB’s poor performance continues in IPL 2024
RCB’s performance in IPL 2024 has been inconsistent. Through four matches, they’ve managed just one victory, a chase against the Punjab Kings. RCB’s bowling has faltered in two matches, failing to defend totals against Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. Their lone batting failure came while chasing against LSG. This lack of all-round performance is a concern for RCB going forward.
