Alan Shearer praises Scott McTominay for leaving Manchester United – Man United News And Transfer News

Alan Shearer has made his feelings known about Scott McTominay’s departure from Manchester United this past summer.

Having fallen down Erik ten Hag’s pecking order in recent times, McTominay was snatched up for €30.4 million by Napoli. He signed a five-year contract with the club.

Since his move, McTominay appears to have fitted in smoothly at the Italian team, scoring after just 25 seconds in Napoli’s recent 3-1 victory over Como.

In Shearer’s mind, there is overwhelming evidence to suggest that leaving Man United was the right decision for the Scottish international.

“It was a wise decision for Scott McTominay to move countries and experience something different, not only on a football pitch but in life as well,” Shearer insisted.

“I wonder what McTominay thinks, looking back at what Man United are doing this season – or rather what they are not doing in terms of performances on the pitch. Scott will look at himself and think he’s made the right decision because it looks as if the move to Napoli is going well for him.”

“He’s already scored a couple of goals, he’s developing a good relationship with Romelu Lukaku, and it looks like he’s enjoying it so from his point of view, he’s clearly made the right decision to leave Manchester United,” Shearer concluded.

McTominay has enjoyed a scintillating start to life in Italy as Napoli sits on top of the Serie A table with five wins in seven matches so far.

In four league appearances to date, he scored one goal and provided an assist while also scoring a goal in Napoli’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Palermo in the second round of the Coppa Italia. (Transfermarkt)

While McTominay’s performances at Napoli so far have proven him to be a good fit at the club, the player himself also made his personal feelings known about the move.

“The Azzurri fans are crazy, I would say, the best I have ever seen,” he claimed following his Napoli debut. He also mentioned that he engaged in “very positive” conversations with his new manager, Antonio Conte, suggesting a meeting of the minds with his new boss.

Following the goalless draw with Aston Villa, United have failed to win in their last five matches. Should Ten Hag be unable to improve his side’s form, McTominay and other players who may contemplate leaving the club will feel far more secure with their decision.
