Ex-Man United star Raphael Varane lands new job after retirement from professional football – Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has confirmed he has landed a new job just weeks after announcing his retirement from professional football.

Varane, who left United in the summer, finally called it a day as a player last month.

After departing Old Trafford as a free agent, he signed for Italian outfit Como. He however endured a nightmare start to life at the club, suffering a knee injury just 20 minutes into his debut.

The issue resulted in Varane being left out of Como’s Serie A squad. He subsequently called time on his professional career.

It has now been confirmed that the Frenchman has extended his stay at Como after accepting a role as a board member of the Serie A outfit.

His responsibilities will revolve around providing oversight on Como’s youth development efforts, while also advising the club on their product development strategy.

Reacting to his appointment, the four-time Champions League winner said, “Throughout my career, I’ve been motivated by a desire to improve and strive for excellence. Transitioning from the field to the boardroom isn’t the end of my football journey; it’s a new beginning that I’m looking forward to.”

He added, “This new phase of my career feels like a second birth, not an ending. I’m not saying goodbye to football.”

Como also issued a statement that read, “Varane will bring his experience and leadership to this new role, marking the next chapter of his career off the pitch.”

“He will collaborate with Osian Roberts, Como’s head of development, and Juliette Bolon, head of the education program, to support the club’s youth development efforts.”

“His involvement will benefit not only the players but also the broader community through educational initiatives.”

“By integrating academic, leadership, and vocational training into the youth programs, Varane aims to help young athletes prepare for life beyond football.”

Varane becomes the latest of several high-profile ex-players to have roles at Como.

In addition to being in the dugout, Cesc Fabregas is a minority shareholder. Arsenal legend Thierry Henry also retains a small stake in Como.
