The Gujarat Titans (GT) have appointed former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel as their new assistant and batting coach for the IPL 2025 season, as announced on Wednesday (November 13). Parthiv’s addition to the coaching staff comes at a crucial time for the Titans as they prepare for the IPL mega auction, set to take place on November 24-25 in Jeddah.
Coaching role and background
Parthiv, known for his 17-year-long cricket career, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Titans. A veteran of the game, he has represented India in 25 Tests, 38 ODIs, and 2 T20Is and has played across multiple IPL teams, including the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). During his time with CSK and MI, Parthiv was part of title-winning squads, adding to his credentials as a seasoned campaigner in high-stakes tournaments.

While this will be Parthiv’s first coaching role in the IPL since his retirement from professional cricket in 2020, he has already built a foundation in coaching and team development. Parthiv previously worked as a talent scout for the Mumbai Indians and more recently served as a batting coach for MI Emirates in the International League T20 (ILT20), showcasing his eye for emerging talent and batting strategy.
Impact on GT’s development
The Titans are optimistic that Parthiv’s experience and technical knowledge will boost their batting unit as they aim to make a strong comeback in IPL 2025. Following an underwhelming season in 2024, where they finished eighth, the franchise is looking to overhaul their strategies and strengthen their player lineup. Parthiv’s sharp understanding of batting dynamics and his ability to mentor young talent make him a strategic addition to the coaching staff, expected to help develop both established players and upcoming stars in the squad.
Parthiv will work closely with head coach Ashish Nehra, whose leadership and insight guided the Titans to an IPL title in their debut season in 2022. Together, the coaching staff aims to refine team tactics and establish a more robust and adaptable lineup for the coming season.
With a substantial purse of ₹69 crore, the Titans are positioned well to make strategic buys in the upcoming auction, hoping to address any gaps in their squad.
