Manchester United could reportedly make a move to bring back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a replacement for Erik ten Hag.
United announced on Monday morning that they have sacked Ten Hag after two-and-a-half years in the Old Trafford dugout.
The decision to part ways with him came after the embarrassing 2-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday at the London Stadium.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will step in on an interim basis while the Red Devils go about the business of searching for a permanent managerial option.
Some of the coaches thought to be in the running for the United role include Xavi Hernandez, Edin Terzic, Julian Nagelsmann, Ruben Amorim, Thomas Frank, Graham Potter and Gareth Southgate.
Samuel Luckhurst of Manchester Evening News reports that Solskjaer is another option under consideration to assume the hot seat.
Solskjaer has been out of management for three years, after he was fired by United in November 2021. He had initially been named as caretaker boss three years earlier.
Late last month, the Norwegian admitted that he’d be open to making a sensational return to the Theatre of Dreams.
Luckhurst reveals, “Manchester United have not ruled out a formal approach for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer amid the possibility they could be restricted to managerial free agents.”
“United figures are concerned they could struggle to buy a coach out of their contract, with Erik ten Hag due around £17million in compensation following his dismissal.”
“It is unclear if United view him as a serious long-term option as manager or a backroom staff member.”
During his time away from the limelight, Solskjaer has been linked to Everton, Burnley, the Denmark and Sweden national teams and Leicester City, just to mention a few.
