Man United “locked in talks” with Sporting Lisbon over huge hurdle threatening to delay Ruben Amorim’s announcement – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are reportedly in talks with Sporting Lisbon over the notice period contained in Ruben Amorim’s contract, which may delay his official unveiling at Old Trafford.

Following Erik ten Hag’s sacking on Monday morning, Amorim quickly emerged as INEOS’ desired candidate to replace the Dutchman. It was stated that a verbal agreement was reached with Amorim, with United willing to pay his release clause.

A few hours ago, Sporting released a statement to the market, confirming that they had been approached by United, who are keen on hiring Amorim as Ten Hag’s replacement.

The statement added that the Red Devils “expressed an interest” in triggering the 39-year-old’s £8.3million release clause.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth is eager for Amorim’s appointment to be announced before Sunday’s clash against Chelsea.

However, if an update provided by Mike Keegan of The Daily Mail is anything to go by, United may have to wait a bit longer before Amorim takes over the reins at the club.

According to Keegan “Manchester United are currently locked in talks with Sporting Lisbon over Ruben Amorim’s notice period, which Mail Sport has learned is ‘a number of weeks’.”

“While United are happy to meet that clause, they are currently negotiating when Amorim can start what will be a huge job at Old Trafford. And it can be revealed that Amorim, 39, has a notice period of ‘a number of weeks rather than days’.”

Keegan explains that if United and Lisbon are unable to reach a compromise over an earlier termination for Amorim, he will not be able to manage the team for the Chelsea clash.

The earliest that he can take charge of the Reds is on November 24th, when United come up against Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town.

The fixture at Portman Road will be United’s immediate match after the two-week November international break.

Meanwhile, United are in Carabao Cup action tomorrow vs. Leicester City.
