Manchester United are reportedly set to fail in their bid to land Sporting Lisbon attacking prospect Geovany Quenda.
Quenda has been linked to United in recent weeks, even as Ruben Amorim closes in on officially taking over the reins at Old Trafford.
Amorim is poised to officially start work at United on November 11 and it was mentioned that Quenda could follow him to England.
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United established contact to explore Quenda’s signing.
It’s understood that Manchester City and two other Bundesliga clubs are also keen on adding the 17-year-old winger to their ranks.
However, it appears that United and other interested parties may be facing disappointment, as Sporting is reportedly unwilling to part ways with the player.
GIVEMESPORT reveal, “Manchester United have suffered a significant setback in their transfer plans a matter of days before Ruben Amorim arrives in the Old Trafford dugout as Sporting star Geovany Quenda is not on course to follow the Portuguese tactician from his current surroundings, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.”
“Manchester United have no chance of getting their hands on Quenda in the coming months, according to GMS sources based in Portugal, as Sporting are refusing to entertain the possibility of sanctioning his departure from the Jose Alvalade Stadium after breaking into the first-team and making an instant impact.”
GMS note that Sporting are under no pressure to sell Quenda as the player has more than two-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal. The teenager is also protected by a release clause thought to be worth around a whooping £84million.
The expectation is that Quenda will continue with his development with the Liga Portugal outfit for “a prolonged period.”
Quenda has made 17 appearances for Sporting’s first team across all competitions this season, scoring two goals and registering as many assists.
One of his assists came against Manchester City on Tuesday night as Amorim’s side ran out 4-1 winners.
