Manchester United’s Ella Toone receives apology from commentator who made wild remark – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United star Ella Toone has reportedly received an apology from the commentator who made a wild remark following her substitution in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal earlier this month.

Toone was named in United’s starting XI by Marc Skinner but was unable to be as impactful as she usually is.

At the 61st-minute mark, Skinner elected to take her off and bring on Melvine Malard to try and restore parity.

As she sat on the bench, disappointment was etched all over Toone’s face. She was caught by the cameras looking a tad bit grumpy and one of the commentators who was covering the game remarked that the United star “had a face like a smacked bum.”

At the time, The Daily Mail revealed that the unnamed male was under investigation by officials of the Women’s Super League, who took a dim view of his comments.

The comment was made on the world feed, an international alternative feed to BBC’s own dedicated liver coverage.

It was quickly snapped up by supporters, who posted the incident on social media.

The Mail have now given an update and indicated that all has been resolved after the commentator issued an apology both to Toone and United.

“It can now be revealed that bosses at the Women’s Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL), as well as the commentator, have apologised to both Toone and United.”

“Sources spoke glowingly of WPLL CEO Nikki Doucet for her urgency in addressing the matter and ensuring there was a smooth process in rectifying, particularly with the matter gaining further scrutiny when highlighted by Ian Wright and former England captain Steph Houghton on their ‘Crossways’ podcast.”

Toone is currently out of action after picking up an injury before United’s win over Leicester City on Sunday.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Lionesses star could be sidelined until the new year as she deals with the calf issue.
