Picture: Luke Shaw returns to solo training at Carrington – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are set to receive a major boost as starting left-back Luke Shaw appears to be nearing his long-anticipating return from injury.

Sidelined since February due to calf, shin, and heel injuries, Shaw has been sorely missed by Man United, with right-back Noussair Mazraoui filling in on the left to fill the void and, more recently, Lisandro Martinez.

Last month, United manager Erik ten Hag warned that Shaw would most likely miss the October international break, with his prediction ringing true.

Since then, hope was instilled following reports that both Shaw and his deputy at left-back, Tyrell Malacia, were edging closer to returning to action.

Now, it appears as if Shaw’s long-anticipated return may finally be upon us.

Freelance sports journalist Sean Kearns posted a photo on X showing Shaw on the training field in Carrington.

“Luke Shaw back in training, albeit working individually away from the main group. Last played for United on 18th February 2024,” the post read.

Shaw’s impending return to action will be of great relief to United, particularly since the club currently has no natural left-backs at their disposal due to their ongoing injury issues.

While Martinez filled in at left-back during the triumph over Brentford, United might not be able to rely on him at left-back given the barrage of injuries plaguing their centre-backs.

Leny Yoro remains sidelined after suffering an ankle and foot injury during the pre-season tour of the US, while earlier today, Jonny Evans was ruled out of tomorrow’s clash with Fenerbahce after picking up a knock.

Despite being forced to continue wading through the ongoing injury crisis, United’s defence has held up admirably in recent days, with the team conceding just nine goals in eight Premier League games while keeping four clean sheets.

Thursday night’s match will be a test of United’s resolve, given that they failed to win either of their first two Europa League matches.
