Ruben Amorim opens up on agreement between Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon – Man United News And Transfer News

Ruben Amorim has had his say on suggestions that there is an agreement in place between Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon for his move to England.

United moved quickly following the sacking of Erik ten Hag to try and secure Amorim’s services as a replacement for the Dutchman.

Earlier today, a report covered by The Peoples Person revealed that Sporting and United have finally struck a deal to allow Amorim to take over the reins at Old Trafford.

The 39-year-old is expected to sign a two-and-a-half-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months, but is unlikely to start in his new role until the November international break.

He is set to be accompanied to United by some of his coaching assistants and sports scientists.

Amorim had a press conference ahead of Sporting’s clash against Estrela da Amadora, where he promised to confirm the decision on his future after the Friday meeting.

When asked whether INEOS chief Sir Dave Brailsford was right to claim that a deal was done, Amorim replied (via 90min), “I know they made a trip to come here to talk about this, and it’s natural, but we’ll leave that for the end of the game. At the end of the game, I’ll talk about all these issues.”

“Now I want the team to focus and myself too. I promise I’ll talk at the end of the game and everything will be clearer. By talking now, it’s just another destabilisation for the squad. Now the focus is on the game.”

“At the end of the game everything will be clearer, I’ve already said that. Right now, the focus is on Estrela. In terms of doing things differently, I wouldn’t. I didn’t control anything in the situation. At the end of the game we’ll have time for that.”

When further pressed about a formal timeline on the imminent announcement of his switch to United, Amorim stated, “It’s a negotiation between two clubs.”

“It’s never easy, even with the clauses, they have to talk. We’ll have clarification after the game. It will be very clear, so it’s one more day.

“After the game tomorrow, we will have the decision made.”

Meanwhile, Ruud van Nistelrooy and the United players return to action on Sunday when they host Chelsea.
