Ruben Amorim set to take charge of Sporting Lisbon’s Friday clash vs. Estrela da Amadora ahead of Man United move – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United fans may have to wait a bit longer to see Ruben Amorim in action, with the Sporting Lisbon manager set to take charge of the Portuguese club’s Friday clash against Estrela da Amadora.

United are on the brink of securing Amorim’s services as they look to move quickly following the sacking of Erik ten Hag.

On Tuesday afternoon, Sporting issued a statement to Portugal’s financial regulator, the securities market commission, confirming that United were interested in hiring Amorim and triggering his release clause.

At the moment, the biggest issue for United appears to be when Amorim can begin working in the Old Trafford dugout.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that sporting director Dan Ashworth was hopeful of having the 39-year-old’s appointment announced before Sunday’s clash against Chelsea.

However, it has now come to light that United must reach an agreement with Sporting for this to proceed, as Amorim reportedly has a notice period that spans weeks rather than days.

If the two parties are unable to find common ground on the matter, it is anticipated that Amorim could take up his new role as soon as November 24, when United head to Portman Road to face newly-promoted Ipswich Town.

According to CNN Portugal, Amorim will remain at Sporting until Friday, when they meet Estrela da Amadora at Estádio José Alvalade.

This has also been confirmed by journalist Ben Jacobs who wrote on X, “As it stands, Ruben Amorim expected to manage Sporting’s game against Estrela da Amadora on Friday.”

“All parties not putting a deadline on formalising the move or working with Chelsea specifically in mind.

“Start date being finalised. Amorim wants to exit in the right manner.”

Meanwhile, it’s believed that Sporting have already lined up reserves coach Joao Pereira to replace Amorim once he departs for the Red Devils.
