Ruud van Nistelrooy has sent an emotional farewell message to Manchester United, the backroom staff, players and the fans following his recent departure.
Van Nistelrooy’s exit was announced on Monday, just hours after new head coach Ruben Amorim arrived at Carrington to assume his role officially.
Former Red Devils striker Van Nistelrooy returned to United in the summer as part of INEOS’ coaching reshuffle. After Erik ten Hag’s late dismissal last month, Van Nistelrooy was appointed interim manager.
He guided the team to three victories and a draw, playing a pivotal role in halting the streak of dismal results and performances under Ten Hag.
Van Nistelrooy’s final match in the Old Trafford dugout was last weekend’s comfortable 3-0 victory over Leicester City.
The 48-year-old had repeatedly expressed a desire to stay at the club and be part of Amorim’s backroom staff but it appears the new United head coach had other ideas.
Now, Van Nistelrooy has broken his silence via a heartfelt message posted on X.
He wrote, “To everyone at Manchester United Football Club, in particular the backroom staff, the players and the fans. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredible efforts and support.”
“It has been a privilege and honour to represent the club as a player, coach and manager, and I will always cherish the memories we have shared together.”
“Manchester United will always have a special place in my heart, and I hope there are many more glory days at Old Trafford very soon – not only because I want the club to do well, but because you all deserve it!”
“All the best and take care, Ruud.”

Van Nistelrooy is unlikely to be short of suitors. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Burnley are interested in taking him to Turf Moor as their new gaffer.
It has also been claimed that Van Nistelrooy has applied to become the next Coventry City boss.
