In an extraordinary batting display, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) set the M Chinnaswamy Stadium ablaze with a dominating win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. In the massive run-fest, SRH outmuscled RCB by 25 runs to continue their domination in the tournament.
Travis Head’s stunning ton powers SRH to record-breaking total
RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bowl first. The decision backfired early as a blazing knock from Travis Head (102 runs off 41 balls) propelled SRH to a strong position. Heinrich Klaasen (67 runs off 31 balls) and Abdul Samad (37 runs off 10 balls) provided valuable cameos lower down the order, taking SRH to highest-ever IPL total of 287/3 in their allotted 20 overs.
SRH’s mind-boggling batting display wasn’t just about surpassing their own season-best of 277. Their mammoth 287-run total rewrote the record books of franchise cricket. This score now stands as the highest ever by any team in a T20 franchise tournament, eclipsing all previous marks. While Nepal’s remarkable 314 for 3 against Mongolia at the Asian Games remains the highest total in T20 cricket overall, SRH now hold the bragging rights in the franchise arena.
RCB fall short despite Dinesh Karthik’s heroics
Chasing a stiff target, RCB got off to a decent start with contributions from Virat Kohli (42 runs) and Faf du Plessis (62 runs). However, the middle order faltered, leaving the onus on Dinesh Karthik (83 runs off 35 balls) to carry the fight. Despite his valiant knock, RCB could only manage 262/7 in their allotted overs, falling short by 25 runs.

SRH skipper Pat Cummins (3 wickets) was the pick of bowlers for the 2016 champions, while Mayank Markande bagged a crucial two wickets. For RCB, Lockie Ferguson took two wickets, but the bowling attack struggled to contain the SRH batters in the face of a massive onslaught.
