Virat Kohli, Smriti Mandhana gift Alan Walker a newly branded RCB jersey with ‘unique number’

Before their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season opener against defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) hosted a grand RCB Unbox event 2024 at their home ground, M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Tuesday, March 19.

This event held special significance as it followed RCB (Women) clinching the Women’s Premier League (WPL) championship, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. Among the highlights, RCB unveiled their new team name and showcased their brand-new jersey for the upcoming season. Renowned Norwegian DJ and music producer Alan Walker, experiencing his first visit to India, was overwhelmed by the warm reception he received.

During the event, Walker was presented with a special gift from RCB’s esteemed trio – Virat Kohli, Smriti Mandhana and Faf du Plessis. They presented him with a newly branded jersey featuring the unique number zero. While some were puzzled by the unusual choice of number, a fan account tried to shed light on the reason behind it.

The mystery behind Walker’s unique jersey number

According to the account, Walker has a Secret Walker Community for his fans, where each member is assigned a number upon joining. Since Alan himself was the first member, he received the number 0, with subsequent members assigned numbers in order of joining.

Adding to the excitement, Walker delighted the crowd by performing the popular Indian song ‘Salaam Rocky Bhai’ from the hit film, KGF. The Chinnaswamy Stadium erupted with cheers as Walker showcased his musical talents in front of the enthusiastic audience.

Vinay Kumar inducted into hall of fame

In addition to the jersey unveiling, the franchise announced a significant change in their name, now known as Royal Challengers Bengaluru. They also honored former cricketer Vinay Kumar by inducting him into the Hall of Fame, joining other esteemed RCB players such as AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle. To commemorate the historic victory of Mandhana and her team against Delhi Capitals in the WPL final, the men’s team paid tribute with a guard of honor, acknowledging their remarkable achievement.
